Kid’s Fishing Derby
The annual kid’s fishing derby is a very special event for Potomac Bassmasters of Virginia. It is our way of giving back to the community and introducing our passion for fishing to the next generation of anglers. During the event, club members are available to teach children how to prepare their gear and catch fish. We also have rods and reels available for those participants who do not have fishing gear.
The kid’s derby is funded through member donations and club dues. Information on the event is listed below along with a derby flier linked to the page.
A special thanks goes to Burke Lake Park and Fairfax Country Park Authority. Burke Lake provides the venue arrangements and free bait for the children.
A special thanks goes to Bass Pro Shops for their continued support of the derby. Bass Pro provides fishing gear and give-away items for the children

2010 Youth Fishing Derby Held for Area Children
Potomac Bassmasters of Virginia (PBV) will hold its annual youth fishing derby on Sunday, June 6, between 9:00 and 12 noon at Burke Lake Park, Fairfax County, Virginia.
For more than 30 years PBV has sponsored a fishing derby for children of the greater D.C. metropolitan area. The goal is to have fun and enjoy the wonderful experience of fishing. Admission to the derby is free and each child will be given a take-away gift for their participation. Angling experience is not necessary as club members will be on hand to help any child who needs assistance. If a child does not have fishing gear, a rod and reel will be provided and live bait will be given to all derby participants at no charge. All fish caught by the children will be weighed-in at the end of the derby and then released. Trophies and prizes will be awarded for the heaviest creels (weight of total fish caught).
Potomac Bassmasters of Virginia (www.potomacbassmasters.com) is a not-for-profit bass club dedicated to the advancement of bass fishing, conservation and youth involvement in angling.
