Potomac
Bassmasters of Virginia (PBV) is one of the oldest bass angling clubs in the
greater Washington, D.C. area. The club is a not-for-profit organization
dedicated to the advancement of bass fishing, conservation, and youth involvement
in angling. Its members generally come from Virginia, Maryland and Washington,
D.C., and share a common passion for bass fishing.
For more than 30 years, PBV has been hosting fishing
tournaments on the Potomac River, sponsoring public events in support of the
community, and holding an annual youth fishing derby. The Potomac River is PBV’s home water but club tournaments have been held in northern and southern
Virginia, North Carolina, Maryland, Delaware and other regional locations.
Tournament destinations are selected by the members prior to the start of the tournament season. Each club tournament is a open-draw format that pairs boaters with non-boaters. This format allows for boating partners to rotate, which helps build friendships among members and facilitates the exchange of angling knowledge and information.
Club meetings are held on a monthly basis at Marshall Library in Alexandria, VA. The meeting time is 7:00 p.m. If you plan to attend, please reconfirm the date, time, and location by reviewing the meeting schedule posted on this site or the "ticker" at the top of this page. Membership dues are $75.00 per year. Applicants for membership are invited to participate in three club events. After the third event, a membership vote is taken to admit the applicant and then membership dues are collected.
Bass anglers join PBV for the camaraderie and the friendly competition provided through club tournaments. If you are interested in becoming a member or want more information, please contact our chapter vice president Rick Kortlang at 703-971-1943 or e-mail rick.kortlang@verizon.net. You do not need to own a boat to join the club.
